Three picks for me this weekend.
NE Revolution
DC United
Meet the new boss same as the old boss. A Steve Nichol's side with great current form. [See my write up last week]. Three clean sheets in a row and explosive scoring which continues. Riding this one till I fall off.
Revs -0.5 -109
Real Salt Lake
LA Galaxy
We all know about the historical road woes of Galaxy. And smaller pitch dimension and the dreaded field turf do not help this weekend.
However lets not forget Real is an expansion franchise with an extensive list of wounded warriors among them Clint Mathis. He may be back but at what % strength. Both Keepers D.J. Countess and Noah Palmer will be out leaving the keeping to Jay Nolly a developmental player.
Now about Galaxy. Yes it lost its opener to Crew 3-0 in a rather abysmal road performance---without Landon Donovan. Donovan has been nothing short of an offensive catalyst bringing out the best in Cobi Jones and "El Pando" who I see as cracking the scoring column possibly this week. Last week the result was close but Galaxy outshot Colorado Rapids about 17 to 2 if I recall correctly. I will give this side the benefit of the road doubt once.
Galaxy pk -103
Colorado Rapids
Chivas USA
Speaking of Colorado Rapids it sucks right about now sporting a 1-4-1 record Same as Chivas USA. But these sides may be heading in opposite directions. I have watched Chivas the last few weeks and although it is still nothing to write home about, the side have tightened up defensively quite a bit. Only a few weeks back Chivas lost in New England 1-0. Last week it finally won at home. I am believing Chivas are not quite as bad as it appeared to be early on but instead struggled early with a foreign brand of soccer. So I will go out on the limb and predict Chivas will avoid losing this weekend. Will not risk too much [that is key] but.....
